ZAGREB, Jan 20 (Hina) - The presidents of six Croatian opposition
parties on Wednesday said they would not hold a press conferences on
Thursday as previously announced.
This decision was prompted by the fact that the ruling Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) has still not made its statement about the
Opposition Six chief demands.
These are the establishment of a committee of inquiry into the work
of intelligence services, the electoral legislation, and the
official use of language and alphabets of national minorities.
"We are still waiting for Vladimir Seks, the president of the HDZ
parliamentary bench, to make a statement," said Djurdja Adlesic
president of the parliamentary bench of the Croatian Social Liberal
Party (HSLS).
Adlesic reiterated that opposition representatives in a Croatian
delegation would not attend a January 28 session of the Council of
Europe Parliamentary Assembly unless the HDZ responded positively
to the Opposition Six demands.
Parliamentary bench presidents of the HDZ and the Opposition Six
met on Monday, but were unable to find concrete solutions on any of
the demands mentioned.
The Opposition Six is made of the HSLS, the Social Democratic Party,
the Liberal Party, the Istrian Democratic Assembly, the Croatian
Peasants' Party, and the Croatian People's Party/Istrian
Democratic Forum association.
