ZAGREB, Feb 4 (Hina) - Parliamentary bench presidents of six Croatian opposition parties on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction with the way Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) is presenting opposition party press conferences and their
representatives' work in parliament. In a joint statement, the six parties' bench presidents in particular protested the Wednesday evening broadcast in "Motrista" of a parliamentary debate on the draft decision for the election of Milan Vukovic to the post of judge at Croatia's Constitutional Court. The broadcast of the debate showed only the part in which Vladimir Seks, bench president of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union, was speaking, said the statement, adding the speeches by the opposition's Damir Kajin, Ante Tukic, Drazen Budisa, Mate Arlovic, Srecko Bijelic, Luka Trconic, Bozo Kovacevic, and Nikola Ivanis were ignored. ZAGREB, Feb 4 (Hina) - Parliamentary bench presidents of six
Croatian opposition parties on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction
with the way Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) is presenting
opposition party press conferences and their representatives' work
in parliament.
In a joint statement, the six parties' bench presidents in
particular protested the Wednesday evening broadcast in "Motrista"
of a parliamentary debate on the draft decision for the election of
Milan Vukovic to the post of judge at Croatia's Constitutional
Court.
The broadcast of the debate showed only the part in which Vladimir
Seks, bench president of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union, was
speaking, said the statement, adding the speeches by the
opposition's Damir Kajin, Ante Tukic, Drazen Budisa, Mate Arlovic,
Srecko Bijelic, Luka Trconic, Bozo Kovacevic, and Nikola Ivanis
were ignored.
The opposition MPs demanded that HRT editor-in-chief Danijel Bucan
and the News Programme editor-in-chief air the entire debate as
soon as possible.
The statement further said significant issues were systematically
ignored in HRT broadcasts, while party conflicts were gaining in
exposure.
This contributed to creating an ultimately distorted picture of
opposition party activity, the statement added.
The joint statement was issued by the Croatian Social Liberal
Party, the Social Democratic Party, the Croatian People's Party,
the Croatian Peasants' Party, the Istrian Democratic Assembly, and
the Liberal Party.
HRT spokesman Kresimir Macan said persons in charge at HRT "have no
comment at the moment."
