The visit to Turkey does not represent any strategic reversal in the Croatian foreign policy but it is further advancement of the cooperation, said Tudjman's foreign policy advisor, Neven Madey, in Zagreb on Friday. The political part of the Turkish-Croatian talks will focus not
only on the bilateral ties but also on the situation in Kosovo and
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Croatia is expecting from Turkey to help in negotiations on annexes
to the Agreement on the special relations between Croatia and the
(Moslem-Croat) Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, so that they
might be signed as scheduled by the middle of this year, he said.
According to figures of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, the trade
between Croatia and Turkey from January to June 1998 amounted to
14.2 million US dollars. Croatia exported goods valued US$2.5
million into Turkey, and imported goods valued US$11.6 million.
The two countries have signed about 20 agreements covering almost
all important sectors, Madey said adding that another six deals
will be concluded in Ankara on agriculture, legal protection,
customs and high education.
A memorandum will be signed on the Turkish cooperation in the
construction of infrastructure in Croatia. A Turkish company ENKA,
as part of Bechtel, is being engaged in a project for the
construction of the Bregana-Zagreb-Sisak highway.
