VALBANDON, Jan 18 (Hina) - An international seminar entitled "Civil protection training in case of catastrophes" began in Valbandon near Pula (south Croatia) on Monday. The seminar gathered some forty participants, members of the
civil defence, police, fire fighters and the Red Cross of Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia. It was opened by assistant to the Croatian Interior Minister, Miljenko Bukovac. The seminar is taking place in Croatia for the first time, and its aim is to train personnel to lead, manage and command protection and rescue forces in disasters and catastrophes, Bukovac said. He added Croatia had so far signed bilateral agreements with Slovenia and Hungary on cooperation in the defence from natural and ecological disasters, and had signed and ratified international agreements on cooperation and assistance n the protection and rescue in peace-time disasters

After the seminar ends on January 29, participants will be handed an
international certificate on completed training by the Cranfield
university and the Croatian Interior Ministry.
