ZAGREB, Jan 19 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister Ivo
Sanader held talks with Germany's State Secretary, Wolfgang
Ischinger as part of political consultations with the German
Foreign Ministry, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
Discussing bilateral relations, the two stressed the need for
further development of successful trade and the search for new
models of a successful cooperation, with mutual consent and
advocating of the further consolidation of overall relations
between Croatia and Germany.
The talks also focused on the strengthening of relations between
Croatia and the European Union during Germany's mandate as
presiding country, with a special accent on the possibility of
opening the PHARE programme for projects in Croatia and the start of
negotiations on a cooperation agreement.
Stressing the Germany Government's full support to Croatian
efforts in joining European and Trans-Atlantic associations,
Ischinger said Croatia was the key factor of stability in this part
of Europe, which is a fact the international community is greatly
taking into consideration.
Sanader informed Ischinger with the Croatian Government's efforts
aimed at determining relations with neighbouring countries, and
stressed its intense efforts in solving border issues, as well as
the continuation of full support to the implementation of the
Washington and Dayton peace agreements.
The talks also focused on the situation in southeastern Europe,
especially regarding the escalation of tensions in Kosovo, and the
decisions of the Yugoslav authorities concerning the work of
international representatives, the international war crimes
tribunal and Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE) in this southern Yugoslav province.
Sanader stressed Croatia had harshly condemned the crimes of
Yugoslav authorities in Kosovo, given its full support to
international efforts for a permanent solution to be found, and
expressed hope that the OSCE Mission chief in Kosovo, William
Walker, would be able to continue his work.
