and Rijeka Mayor Slavko Linic.
After the meeting Brozina said he expected that Saturday's talks
would mark the beginning of the more intensive economic cooperation
between Hungary and the Rijeka area in the coming period.
The County Prefect stressed that the construction of a modern
highway from Rijeka via Zagreb to Gorican (at the border with

the railway line in 19th century which helped Rijeka to become a

Rijeka Mayor Linic said the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister to
this city encouraged Rijeka citizens to believe in a promising
economic future.
City authorities would do their best to contribute to the creation
of closer relationship between Croatia and Hungary, Linic added.
He thanked Orban for the help Hungary had offered to Croatia during
the Homeland War.
Orban said the Hungarian delegation had visited Croatia and Rijeka
to find partners for better and permanent cooperation which should
be based on the historical links, friendship and the mutual
interest of the two countries.
He added that the Hungarian economy had surpassed a level which it
had had before the transition period and become one of the strongest
exporters in Central Europe. Therefore, Hungary seeks
possibilities of the transport of its goods, Orban said.
He expressed hope that negotiations between experts and financiers
of the two countries would ensue after his visit to Croatia. He
expected that such negotiations would determine favourable
opportunities for the cooperation and help the two governments to
make good decisions.
After the talks, the Hungarian high-ranking officials toured the
Franciscan monastery at Trsat and the Trsat hill-fort.
