HSLS MP LEAVES PARTY

ZAGREB, Jan 28 (Hina) - A Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) parliament representative on Thursday stepped out of the party due to dissatisfaction with the HSLS's inconsistent policy and left-bound direction. HSLS MP Ivan Herak told reporters he did not intend to join the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), nor any other party. "I cannot consent to HSLS's entering into coalition with those it dismissed six months ago because of their 'the better the worse' policy," Herak said explaining his decision. He refused to name names, but said the group of six opposition parties might win at elections, but would not be capable of successfully running the state. Speaking about reports that he was to become minister of tourism, Herak told reporters he had nothing against taking that office. "Certain negotiations are in course," he said. He pointed out however that it had nothing to do with his leaving the HSLS. Commenting on Herak's stepping

He pointed out however that it had nothing to do with his leaving the HSLS. Commenting on Herak's stepping out, HSLS president Drazen Budisa said, "this is good for the HSLS, but the HDZ and Herak certainly lose." With Herak's arrival, the government was getting a minister who by election time would be getting acquainted with the Ministry of Tourism, he added. (hina) ha jn
