BOSNIAN CROAT PROPOSE A SOLUTION TO BRCKO

BRCKO, Jan 20 (Hina) - Bosnian Croat deputies at the multiethnic assembly of the Brcko municipality informed Brcko Supervisor Robert Farranado of their stands on a decision to be made by the arbitration for Brcko. In their letter forwarded to Farrando, Croats suggested that Brcko be a district covering the pre-war area of the municipality of Brcko. However, they also proposed that the area can be broadened so that the current municipality of the (Croat-controlled) Ravne- Brcko municipality be included in the district. Bosnian Croats were also in favour of the customs free zone and the two-way return of refugees. According to their proposal, the Brcko district will be under the jurisdiction of Bosnia-Herzegovina's Ministerial Council. The 63- seat municipal assembly and the executive committee will represent the authority. Bodies of the authority will be elected every four years. The district of Brcko will provide financial backing from its own resources, and remain under the international supervision. A decision on this disputed area in northeastern Bosnia is expected to be made by the arbitration by the end of February. Both entities of Bosnia-Herzegovina - the Republic of Srpska and the Croat-Moslem Federation - demand that Brcko be a part of their territory. (hina) ms
