ZAGREB, Dec 27 (Hina) - Croatia's Defence Minister Jozo Rados on
Wednesday visited gravely wounded conscripts - Ivan Martinovic and
Danijel Dosen - who sustained injuries in an explosion in the
military barracks in Ogulin and who are now being treated in the
'Rebro' hospital in Zagreb.
Minister Rados declined to comment on details of an investigation
into last month's tragedy in the training quarters of the St.
Peter's barracks in Ogulin where five conscripts were seriously and
16 were lightly injured in the blast of a shell.
There is the great interest of the public in it, but the probe is
limited also by the psychological state of affairs of the hurt
conscripts, and we cannot go against the decision of experts,
either made by the military police or by doctors, Rados told
reporters today in the hospital.
It will be possible to pay damages to the injured soldiers only
after doctors and medical experts establish degrees of injuries of
the conscripts, he said. This job is within the competence of the
war veterans' ministry. However, if it takes too much time, we shall
start with our administrative activities, the defence minister
added.
The young conscripts are recovering very well, he said adding that
doctors expect that the most seriously wounded - Dosen and
Martinovic - will be able to walk with artificial limbs one day.
Minister Rados also did not want to answer reporters' questions
about his opinion on the recent statement of General Imra Agotic
about when crimes had happened in liberated areas. Rados explained
that he did not decline to comment but that this was not an occasion
for expressing his stand.
