The government has entrusted the heads of public institutions to
list strikers so that they could be denied payment for the time
spent on strike, claiming it has the right to do this as any other
employer.
Wage deductions are actually punishment for the strike and the
listing of strikers is a form of intimidation, Ribic said in a
letter sent today to the government.
These are inadequate measures because public servants were
responsible and none of their clients was deprived of services
during the strike, he said.
If deductions are made, the workers will compensate for the time
spent on strike and the government will then have to pay for it as
overtime work, which is 50 percent more expensive, Ribic warns.
