ZAGREB, Dec 7 (Hina) - Ninoslav Pavic's lawyer on Thursday
announced charges would be pressed against Interior Minister Sime
Lucin and Zagreb County Court investigating judge Zoran Luburic.
Pavic, the co-owner and chairman of the board of press publisher
Europa Press Holding, was arrested on Monday evening on suspicion
of association to gain control of the Croatian media. He was
released on Wednesday because the police report was insufficiently
founded. The state prosecutor's office decided against an
investigation.
Pavic's lawyer Vesna Alaburic will press two charges against
Interior Minister Lucin, one for unsubstantiated engagement of
special police units during the arrest and search of premises and
the careless pressing of charges against her client.
Lucin will also be charged for false reporting. Alaburic says
police knew that for some of the nine suspects in the GRUPO case
there was "not even the mildest suspicion that they committed a
criminal act."
Alaburic will press charges against Judge Luburic, who ruled a 48-
hour custody for Pavic, for unconscientious work, and will request
the State Judicial Council to launch disciplinary proceedings.
Interior Ministry spokesman Slavko Rako told Hina he was unable to
comment on the criminal charges before he perused their contents.
Judge Luburic was unavailable for comment.
The GRUPO scandal broke out after Republika daily accused Pavic,
Vinko Grubisic, a co-owner of OTV television station, media magnate
Miroslav Kutle, and Ivic Pasalic, a Croatian Democratic Union party
deputy of attempting to gain control over most Croatian media via
the GRUPO association. Of nine suspects, Pavic and Grubisic were
detained for two days. Both were set free yesterday after the
prosecutor's office decided against an investigation owing to
insufficient evidence.
The case is still under investigation.
