ZAGREB, Nov 28 (Hina) - Unions of a few public companies such as INA (oil industry), HEP (the power industry), the Croatian Telecom and the Croatian Post and the Croatian Road Administration, on Tuesday announced a protest against the
Government's decision to return their salaries to last year's level. On 9 November, the Government adopted a conclusion ordering to management and supervisory boards of public and state-run companies to return the average of gross salaries to the amount in 1999 and if there is the case of payment of increased average, the process of lessening should be conducted in coming five months. The 1999 average salaries should be in force in 2001 as well, the Ivica Racan Cabinet decided. (oil industry), HEP (the power industry), the Croatian Telecom and
the Croatian Post and the Croatian Road Administration, on
Tuesday announced a protest against the Government's decision to
return their salaries to last year's level.
On 9 November, the Government adopted a conclusion ordering to
management and supervisory boards of public and state-run
companies to return the average of gross salaries to the amount in
1999 and if there is the case of payment of increased average, the
process of lessening should be conducted in coming five months.
The 1999 average salaries should be in force in 2001 as well, the
Ivica Racan Cabinet decided.
A leader of unionists in INA, Bozo Mikus, complained at a news
conference that employees with that company would receive salaries
cut by 16.6 percent in next five months and after that the salary
would be lessened by 6.3 percent compared to the current monthly
income.
These unions therefore announced various forms of protests for the
beginning of December. The pressure will be increased until the
Government gives up plans for the cut in their salaries.
The strongest union in the power sector - HES- will organise a
warning strike on 5 December, HES leader Dubravko Corak told
reporters.
Corak explained that citizens would not be stricken by the
consequence of their industrial action, but the strike would affect
the owner and management of the HEP.
Jadranko Vehar, leader of the HPT union occupying postal workers,
announced a protest rally of employees with the Croatian Post and
Telecom for 6 December.
INA unionists will gather before the building of the Croatian
national parliament on the same day.
Unions of workers in INA and the Croatian Road Administration
lodged an appeal to Croatia's Constitutional Court against the
Government's decisions.
