ZAGREB, Nov 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Government has accepted a request of civil servants' unions on an 8.5-percent increase of salaries in the public sector. However, the Government will not raise the basic wage for this purpose but
will give one-off grants to cover the difference in the salaries. The Government is absolutely willing to meet its commitments under a collective contract it has signed with seven unions of civil servants and government employees on the harmonisation of their salaries with the income of employees with the state-run companies, a Deputy Prime Minister, Zeljka Antunovic, said on Thursday evening after today's round of negotiations with unionists. The Government accepts the unionists' demand for the 8.5 percent increase in salaries for the last three months this year. The difference in salaries for October and November will be covered by the one-off grant in December and

The unions will respond to the Government's offer at the next round
of talks on Monday, a union leader, Ivica Ihas, said.
