ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - The Croatian Union of Mine Removal Experts on Tuesday evening said it gave up plans to stop mine removal activities throughout Croatia set up for Wednesday, as the new leadership of the association of employers
for demining appointed in the meantime was ready for negotiations with unionists. The union, however, abides by plans to stage a peaceful protest rally in front of the Government's offices in Zagreb on November 20. According to a statement the union issued last night, most requests which the union made public last week have been fulfilled, but mine removal experts are still dissatisfied with unsolved issues. About 280 mine removal experts, that is, all but those employed with the Croatian army and police, will on November 20 gather in front of the government building in St. Mark's Square and hand their requests to parliamentary deputies. The union demands that the new law on mine removal ensure
accelerated pension plan for mine removal experts, their
retirement in line with conditions referring to professions of
special state interest after 10 years of work in mine fields, as
well as better care in case of an occupational disease.
