LJUBLJANA, Nov 9 (Hina) - The upcoming Zagreb Summit will consist of
two parts, political and economic, EU High Commissioner Javier
Solana said in Ljubljana ahead of leaving for Zagreb Thursday.
During the section focusing of politics we would like to hold a
discussion, if possible, adopt conclusions, on how countries in
this part of Europe can solve outstanding problems such as borders,
national and ethnic minorities, and all issues fundamental for a
stable region which could access the European Union, Solana said.
According to him, Croatia is not completely in this structure
because it is already a candidate. However, other countries of the
region are not candidates and we must begin signing agreements on
stabilisation and association with them, he added.
As regards economic aspects of the conference, I wish to state that
we shall not hold a donors' conference. This is a conference at
which we wish to strengthen economic ties of countries with the
European Union and the countries among themselves, Solana told a
news conference.
Slovene Foreign Minister Lojze Peterle said Slovenia would
participate at the Zagreb Summit as an associate member of the EU.
The Zagreb summit will be attended by the heads of state and prime
ministers of 15 European Union countries, five countries from the
Agreement on Stabilisation and Association, as well as delegations
from Slovenia and Brussels and three international officials.
