HELSINKI, Oct 17 (Hina) - In the realisation of its strategic goals, Croatian needs and wants Finland's help, Croatian national parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic said in Helsinki Tuesday during talks with his host, Finnish parliament
speaker Riitta Uosukainen. Croatia's main goals are further democratisation of the country, economic reforms, stability of the entire region, and adjusting to European Union standards, Tomcic said, adding Finland already expressed readiness to assist Croatia with advice and funds in the adjustments of the Croatian legislation to the legislation of the European Union. Finland has event-filled history, and we did not gain our independence free of charge, Uosukainen said and added this was way Finland saw where Croatian was coming from. The Croatian national parliament speaker was also received by
Finnish President Tarja Halonen.
During the talks with Tomcic, the Finnish President said Finland
advocated an individual approach toward Croatia's joining the
European Union, and praised Croatia for the achieved so far.
President Halonen also pointed to the significance of the upcoming
summit in Zagreb at which Finland would be represented by either the
President personally or Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen.
