PULA, Oct 13 (Hina) - Some 1500 people have to date signed a petition
against the performance of military manoeuvres on the Cape Kamenjak
in Istria.
The petition has been signed for two days at the central market in
Pula, in the downtown Medulin and in the centre of Premantura.
The initiator of the action is the Istrian Democratic Alliance
(IDS). Eight days ago its members in Pula expressed indignation at
announcements that Croatia's and Slovenia's Air Forces would
perform a joint military exercise in Premantura, i.e the listed
park of the Kamenjak Cape.
The joint exercise is being held from 5 to 21 October.
Kamenjak is unique thanks to its paleontological and botanical
characteristics. German environmentalists compare it with the
Amazon, has said Ivica Matosevic, the head of the county
institution "Natura Histrica".
If the cape retains to be military testing ground, this will badly
affect tourism in the municipality of Medulin, the municipal head
Dario Mezulic said at a news conference eight days ago.
The petition is going to be signed tomorrow when a peaceful protest
rally is to be staged at the entrance to the cape.
