Tourist workers in the park are satisfied with this result and hope
that by the end of October some 450,000 guests will have visited the
Plitvice, which will present an increase by 90,000 as against
1998.
The Plitvice Lakes, situated in central Croatia, are the oldest
national park in the country and added to the world natural heritage
list. The central stretch consists of 16 lakes connected with water
cascading down crystalline calcium carbonate barriers. The park
also includes 80 hectares of almost pristine forest of huge fir and
beech trees (up to 50 metres tall).
