ZAGREB, Oct 12 (Hina) - Croatia's Government on Thursday accepted measures for the preparations for the coming tourist season which should produce the turnover by 5-10 percent higher and the foreign exchange earnings higher by 10
percent. In the first nine months this year there were overnight stays by 45 percent more as against the same period last year, Croatian Tourism Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic said. The earnings from tourism this year increased by some 9 percent as against last year. According to first estimates, this season will bring some 2.8 billion dollars, although the income expressed in the kuna will be higher (owing to the appreciation of dollar by 12 percent), Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac said. Some measures for the preparation of the next tourist season
include the financial rehabilitation and restructuring of tourist
firms, rescheduling of loans of hotels, the definition of a policy
and models for the privatisation of the government-held shares from
tourist portfolio, and stimulation for world-known chains of
hotels to enter Croatia.
According to the measures, displaced persons (some 2000 are still
accommodated in hotel facilities) should be re-located and
transport infrastructure improved. In addition, domestic
production should be developed to enhance the entire offer in
tourism.
The Government today decided to initiate procedure for the
conclusion of a financial memorandum between Croatia and the
European Union. This is a basis for the grant of three (3) million
euro which will be used as a technical assistance for efforts of
Croatia to adjust its legislation with the EU regulations and
rules, privatise terrorist sector, develop small and medium-sized
businesses and to reform the state administration.
The Government postponed a discussion on a programme for the
renovation of the fleet of the Rijeka-based 'Jadrolinija' for next
session.
