ZAGREB MARKS NO CAR DAY ZAGREB, Sept 22 (Hina) - Zagreb is on Friday marking the European no car day- Traffic is prohibited in the central section of the city, while the Environment Protection Ministry and city leadership have
organised a public manifestation to warn about air pollution and the problem of noise. In the past several years several local initiatives had taken place to provide Europeans with the opportunity to think about mobility in towns, with greater consideration for the environment, such as more pedestrians, bicycles and public transport in the centres of European cities. The no car day was for the first time marked in France in 1998, in 1999 Italian towns joined the initiative and this year numerous European towns are marking the day.(hina) lml
