ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday forwarded into parliamentary procedure a bill on new identity cards, whose issuing should start in spring next year. The government has suggested new, more practical IDs,
which would be adjusted to European standards and thus more difficult to forge. In line with European standards, the new ID would first state the bearer's surname and then the name. Data on the card would be printed in Croatian and English. The operation of introducing new IDs would cost the state 15 million kuna and the amount to be covered by the citizens will be known after the bill is adopted. It has been proposed that the law go into force on April 1 2001.(hina) jn rml
