ZAGREB, Sept 18 (Hina) - Tihomir Oreskovic, one of five persons
suspected of committing war crimes against Serb civilians in the
Gospic area in 1991, was transferred from the Rijeka County Court to
Zagreb's prison infirmary due to a deteriorated condition.
According to Oreskovic's attorney Zeljko Dumancic, his client has
been transferred due to increased blood sugar.
Another suspect, Ivica Rozic, who suffers from post-traumatic
stress syndrome, has been in Zagreb's prison infirmary since two
days ago. According to Dumancic, Rozic's condition is extremely
difficult.
The defence today appealed to the decision by Rijeka County Court
investigating judge Sajonara Culina to impose one-month detention
on the suspects.
Dumancic added the defence today received the ruling on initiating
an investigation, to which it also planned to appeal. The defence
has not received the official police record of the police
questioning, which should confirm or dismiss Interior Minister
Sime Lucin's statement that one of the apprehended had confessed to
the crime, accusing the other four.
The defence dismissed Lucin's statement, presenting to reporters
statements by their clients, given before the investigating judge
in Rijeka, from which it is obvious that they pleaded not guilty and
will use silence as defence.
The Rijeka County Court, which took over jurisdiction over the case
from the Gospic County Court in line with a decision by the Supreme
Court, is to make a decision about the detention appeal.
