ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN IN BOSNIA TO BEGIN SEPTEMBER 27

SARAJEVO, Sept 13 (Hina) - The Mission of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday confirmed the electoral campaign for general elections to take place in this country in November would begin on September 27. In a statement issued in Sarajevo the OSCE called on all citizens in Bosnia-Herzegovina to actively participate in the pre-election activities which would last until November 11, when the elections are scheduled. The election blackout will come into effect 24 hours ahead of the opening of polling stations. All political parties, coalitions, candidates and their sympathisers are called on to follow the electoral campaign rules as had been set by the OSCE. The Mission especially accentuated the need to refrain from using flaring language and any kind of invitation to hatred, as well as to recognise the right to undisturbed electoral rallies by all parties

At the elections in November, citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina will be electing representatives into the country's parliament, parliaments of the two entities (the Moslem-Croat Bosnian Federation and the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska) and canton assemblies in the Bosnian Federation. Citizens will also be electing the new president and vice-president of Republika Srpska and the Srebrenica municipal council. The incumbent chairman of the presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegovic, announced he would withdraw from the three- member state leadership in October, but his successor will not be elected at the upcoming elections. The new Bosniak member of the presidency for the remaining two-year mandate will be appointed by members of the new Parliament of Bosnia-Herzegovina to be elected in November. (hina) lml
