ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's head, Adrian
Severin, on Tuesday expressed doubt that the forthcoming elections
in Yugoslavia (Serbia/Montenegro) would bring democratic changes
and lead to the fall of the Milosevic regime.
This representative of the OSCE (Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe) is attending a conference of parliamentary
heads of countries connected to the Stability Pact for South-
eastern Europe, which is taking place in Zagreb on Tuesday and
Wednesday..
It is difficult to imagine the stabilisation of the region without
the democratisation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
(Serbia/Montenegro), Severin said. He greeted the participation of
Montenegrin representatives in the Zagreb event and commended
Montenegro for its efforts to democratise relations in
Yugoslavia.
Presidential and parliamentary elections in Yugoslavia as well as
local elections in Serbia are set for 24 September.
Commenting on the achievements the Stability Pact has made so far,
Severin emphasised that the accomplishment of the Pact's goals had
to be accelerated.
Nations of this region have not yet felt results which ensue from
the Stability Pact. We must speed up processes and remove
bureaucratic hindrances, he added.
Severin pointed to an important role which Croatia plays as a
country-bridge in south-eastern Europe.
