DUBROVNIK, Aug 30 (Hina) - U.S. Senator Bob Dole, who is the head of
the international commission in charge of the search for missing
persons in the area of former Yugoslavia, on Wednesday held talks
with Montenegrin Premier Filip Vujanovic.
The talks, which took place in the southern Croatian seaside town of
Dubrovnik, revolved around the situation in Montenegro which
together with Serbia constitutes the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia (FRY).
The two politicians considered the state of affairs ahead of the
Yugoslav elections set for 24 September.
Senator Dole assessed that it was the right move of the Montenegrin
authorities to boycott this ballot as they were aware what Slobodan
Milosevic, the incumbent Yugoslav President, had so far done.
The United States will continue to support and assist democratic
processes in Montenegro, Dole said adding that upon his return to
Washington he would submit an official report on this meeting to the
Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright.
Asked whether he was expecting reactions of the Yugoslav Army,
Vujanovic said he did not expect such developments. Although the
army's leadership is loyal to Milosevic, officers are not willing
to use the army for wrong purposes, and this is confirmed by many
examples from Montenegro, the Premier Vujanovic added.
