police reported on Tuesday. The Turkish nationals crossed illegally into Croatia at about 11.00 pm last Friday at Katinovac near Topusko and walked several kilometres until they reached Cemernica where the border police found them. The Turks were taken to the police station in Gvozd (some 60 kilometres south of Zagreb) and charges were pressed against them. The magistrates' court fined 22 Turks and three persons were given a reprimand. The protective measure of eviction was taken against all of them, and these Turks cannot enter Croatia in coming two years. One Turk, who did not have enough money to pay the fine, will be sent
to prison for eight days. Another two Turks, who gave false
documents on their identity, will again be taken to the court. Other
22 Turks were transferred back to Bosnia in line with a agreement
Zagreb and Sarajevo have recently signed on the matter.
Sisak-Moslavina County police has broken up a part of chain of
persons who smuggled foreign nationals via the Croatian territory.
On September 1, they apprehended two Croatians suspected of
illegally transferring foreigners.
These two men and yet another person who is now at large, rented two
lorries in Zagreb and departed for Brubanj near Glina in order to
take over illegal immigrants and transfer them to Zagreb. The
apprehended suspects are in custody in Sisak.
This year Sisak-Moslavina County has registered 39 attempts of
groups of foreigners who tried to illegally cross the Bosnian-
Croatian frontier. There were 261 foreigners, mostly Iranians and
Turks, in those groups. Some of them have tried to pass the border
illegally for a few times.
