SLAVONSKI BROD, Aug 31 (Hina) - The Slavonski Brod-Posavina County police department on Thursday reported the border police had searched the Sava River bed and discovered the bodies of all 12 Iranian emigrees, who had drowned in the
river on August 29 when the boat, in which they were trying to illegally cross the border between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, overturned. The boat, which overturned because it was overloaded, carried another eight Iranians, who managed to save themselves. The county police head Josip Rohacek told reporters yesterday the Iranians were assisted in their attempt to enter Croatia by four Slavonski Brod residents, including a former reserve police officer. The seven Iranians who reached the Croatian shore, three men, three
women, and a baby, were discovered after they knocked at the door of
a street in Slavonski Brod at 2 a.m. looking for help.
Two of the Slavonski Brod residents who helped them cross the river
were arrested. Arrest warrants were issued for the other two.
The Iranians had arrived in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday aboard a
regular Istanbul-Sarajevo flight.
