RUDOPOLJE, Aug 23 (Hina) - For five days fire-fighters from Otocac and Korenica and forest rangers have been battling a fire on the south slopes of Kapela near Rudopolje in the Lika region (central Croatia). The fire has so far
engulfed one hundred hectares of forest. About 120 people are fighting the fire Wednesday, including members of the Croatian Army "Gromovi" 2nd Guard Brigade, an intervention division group of the fire-fighting brigade from Zagreb and a helicopter which is helping deliver water to unreachable terrain. "The fire has been curbed and its spreading further into the forest has been prevented," assistant Croatian chief fire commander Mladen Vinkovic said Wednesday. Vinkovic is coordinating the fire-fighting operation in Rudopolje. He added the fire is not endangering the Plitvicka Jezera national park.(hina) lml
