CARE FOR CROAT SETTLERS HAS TO BE IMPROVED - REPS. CONCLUDE

BENKOVAC, July 18 (Hina) - Representatives of Croatia's government and associations of Croat settlers on Tuesday agreed it was necessary to improve care for Croats settling on the Benkovac area in southern Croatia. They concluded at a meeting in Benkovac the cooperation the government's Agency for Legal Transactions and Real Estate Management had achieved with associations providing care for Croat settlers was unsatisfactory. A statement issued after the meeting said it was necessary to instruct town housing commissions that they were obligated to cooperate with associations of Croat settlers before a decision on the purchase of a house was made. The government has been requested to pass special ordinances envisaged by the law on areas of special government concern. The statement said it was also necessary to pass an instruction on local self-government conduct in connection with the construction of houses when construction lots were allocated. The participants in the meeting called on county courts to abide by a Supreme Court instruction on the enforcement of a law rescinding a law on the temporary take-over and management of certain property. In attendance were Lovre Pejkovic, head of the Displaced Persons, Returnees, and Refugees Administration at the Public Works and Reconstruction Ministry, Tomislav Cepelja, a representative of the Agency for Legal Transactions and Real Estate Management, Nediljko Knezovic, president of the Union of Immigrants and Settlers, Benkovac mayor Branko Kutija, and others.
