Parliament's House of Representative, Luciano Violante, who
arrived in Zagreb on Monday on a two-day official visit to Croatia.
After the talks he held with his host, Sabor Speaker Zlatko Tomcic,

relations between Italy and Croatia."
Violante proposed to the Croatian National Parliament's head that
their meetings should be held on a regular basis every six months,
and Tomcic endorsed his proposal.
Concerning the political change that took place in Croatia in
recent months and the furtherance of good relations with neighbours
as well as many commendations Zagreb received from the European
Union and NATO, I believe that Croatia has become a leading country
in this region, Violante said and expressed hope that this process
would proceed.
Tomcic confirmed that his meeting with Violante had proved that
Zagreb and Rome were developing real partnership.
We have received the confirmation that what Croatia has been doing
since the election is acceptable for Italy and other European
countries, the Sabor Speaker added.
In line to the necessity to hold Italian-Croatian parliamentary
meetings more frequently, Tomcic announced his trip to Italy for
this autumn.
According to a statement released by the Sabor this evening, Tomcic
notified the Italian guest of strategic goals of the new Croatian
policy such as the country's admission into Euro-Atlantic
integration processes, the promotion of democracy and economic
progress.
Commenting on the parliament's activities, Tomcic told Violante
about Croatian laws on human and minorities rights and on the right
to the return to one's own home.
According to the statement, Violante showed interest in the
situation in region and the development of Croatia's political
relations with neighbouring countries.
On Tuesday Violante is to meet Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino
Picula.
