SPLIT, July 6 (Hina) - Croatian Federation of Independent Unions
(SSSH) President Davor Juric on Thursday said this union's
estimation of the current economic and social state of affairs in
the country differed from the Government's marks.
At a session of the SSSH Council in the biggest coastal city of
Split, Juric said "the growth in the Croatian Gross Domestic
Product, which the government likes to cite, does not reflect on the
improvement of the social position of workers, while the
announcements by the Government about a further wave of bankruptcy
procedures aggravates the economic and social situation in the
country."
He added that nevertheless a contract on a just Croatia, signed
before the election by six parties which now constitute the ruling
coalition, was proceeding well.
The SSSH supports the tax policy of the incumbent Government, Juric
said asserting it would not burden the living standards of
workers.
The SSSH leader voiced satisfaction that a new labour law
incorporated a majority of proposals unions had given such as the
right to the strike action and employers' obligation to calculate
and give a statement on the salary for each worker each month,
regardless whether it could be paid.
Juric said the economic situation was particularly grave in
southern Croatia as "Dalmatia was systematically destroyed in last
ten years and was the heart of the process of tycoonisation in
Croatia."
