ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - Croatia's trade union of workers engaged in mine-clearing on Friday urged Prime Minister Ivica Racan to set a date within a fortnight for a meting with a union delegation, announcing a general strike in
demining throughout Croatia unless their request was met. In a letter to the prime minister, the union points out a bill on humanitarian demining, which is being prepared by the Interior Ministry and the Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR), is defective and a cause of dissatisfaction among workers engaged in mine-clearing activities. The union is also unhappy that the government has not selected an expert to follow demining-related issues and cooperate with the union and mine-removal experts. The union further believes funds for demining are being spent irrationally, and that radical personnel changes are necessary at HCR. According to the letter, all this could result in a strike
