KARLOVAC, July 6 (Hina) - German Ambassador to Croatia, Gerhard Weiss, on Thursday visited the branch office of the Croatian Mine Removal Centre (HCR) in Karlovac (50 kilometres south of Zagreb) and its war-ravaged suburb of Turanj.
The reason for the diplomat's visit is the German Government's donation, worth 160,000 German marks, to this institution. Germany donated means and equipment for the demarcation of mine-infested areas. At a news conference in Turanj it was said that the donated material and means were manufactured or supplied by Croatian firms. Ambassador Weiss was informed that there were 60 mine fields in a broader Karlovac area. The means will be used for cleaning the 15-30-metre-wide strip along the Karlovac-Plitvice-Split road.
