WASHINGTON, June 8 (Hina) - A delegation including representatives
of the Croatian government and the Croatian Power Industry (HEP)
and officials of the US corporation Enron in Houston on Thursday
started talks on changes to an agreement on the construction and
utilisation of the Jertovec gas power plant, which Croatia and the
US company signed last year.
The Croatian delegation wants to harmonise the agreement with a
programme of reform of Croatia's market of power products, First
Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic said before the start of the
talks.
The Croatian delegation also includes Economy Minister Goranko
Fizulic, Fizulic's assistant Roman Nota, HEP director Ivo Covic,
Croatia's Ambassador to the United States, Miomir Zuzul, and
Aleksandar Heina, advisor on economy at the Croatian Embassy.
The Enron delegation is headed by the company's vice-president Joe
Sutton.
The talks, which are held behind closed doors, should be completed
by Friday afternoon.
Minister Fizulic said previously the Croatian government proposed
that the gas power plant Jertovec be one in a series of private power
plants and it would therefore suggest to Enron that the agreement be
changed so that Jertovec could be given the status of independent
power production plant.
