ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Slavko Linic
and Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce,
Supachai Panitchpakdi, on Friday held talks on bilateral economic
relations, especially economic reforms and privatisation.
According to a statement from the Government's Public Relations
Office, Panitchpakdi informed Linic about the reforms conducted by
the Thai government over the past two years. Since the experience of
the Thai government in implementing economic reforms can be very
useful for Croatia, the two officials agreed on the possibility of
exchanging experience on the level of economic experts.
Thai business people are very interested in entering the south-east
European market, the Thai vice premier said. He demonstrated strong
interest in cooperation in the field of tourism, power industry,
shipbuilding industry, trade and maritime affairs. A dozen large
Thai companies will participate at this year's Zagreb Autumn Fair.
Minister Linic informed his guest about the measures the Croatian
government was taking with the aim of stimulating foreign
investments, stressing that a special form of cooperation could be
realised in tourism and that Thai hotel managers could be
interested in investing into Croatian hotels.
The two officials agreed that opportunities for economic
cooperation between the two countries were numerous and diverse and
that one should further improve bilateral relations. The first step
in that direction will be for the two sides to accelerate talks on a
free trade agreement.
Panitchpakdi thanked the Croatian government for successfully
organising the visit of Thailand's Princess Mahe Chakri Sirindhorn
to Croatia in April, which he described as an important step in the
establishment of closer ties between the two countries.
