ZAGREB, June 1 (Hina) - It is with unbelief and anxiety that the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO), together with the democratic public, is following the flood of extremist statements and threats uttered at political gatherings in the
country. The most recent example of such a speech was that of member of parliament of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), Ante Djapic, at a rally organised by the Alliance of Associations of Croatian Homeland War veterans in Vukovar on Independence Day, the HHO said in a statement Thursday. "Known for his threats to his non-sympathisers, Djapic told Serbs, citizens of Croatia, 'Let the Serbs in Vukovar know that some former authorities, even this new authority, can adopt a hundred laws on amnesty and reconstruction, but we will come to power sooner or later, and then woe betide you'," the HHO said in the statement. ZAGREB, June 1 (Hina) - It is with unbelief and anxiety that the
Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO), together with the democratic
public, is following the flood of extremist statements and threats
uttered at political gatherings in the country.
The most recent example of such a speech was that of member of
parliament of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), Ante Djapic, at a
rally organised by the Alliance of Associations of Croatian
Homeland War veterans in Vukovar on Independence Day, the HHO said
in a statement Thursday.
"Known for his threats to his non-sympathisers, Djapic told Serbs,
citizens of Croatia, 'Let the Serbs in Vukovar know that some former
authorities, even this new authority, can adopt a hundred laws on
amnesty and reconstruction, but we will come to power sooner or
later, and then woe betide you'," the HHO said in the statement.
The HHO wonders how many more cries of war must be heard in Croatia
and how much more hatred must be poured from speakers' stands for
inciters and instigators to cause appropriate replies by the
public".
All those who truly care about democracy will have to see that
parties, associations and individuals with such conduct simply do
not belong to the political spectre acceptable from the stance of
basic human rights and have no legitimacy of democratic political
factors, the HHO said.
