ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - Croatia is satisfied with the third meeting
of the national coordinators of the Stability Pact for South-East
Europe because it was held along the lines of the principle it has
advocated from the beginning - the principle of transparency,
efficiency and equality of all participants, Croatia's national
coordinator for the Stability Pact, Vladimir Drobnjak, said in
Zagreb on Friday.
The meeting of Stability Pact coordinators, which was held in
Zagreb today, was part of preparations for a meeting of the Regional
Table, to be held in Salonika on June 8. This meeting will be
preceded by a ministerial meeting on June 7, which will be attended
also by Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula.
The Zagreb meeting focused on the strengthening of countries in the
region within the Stability Pact. Also presented at the meeting was
a proposal that one diplomat each from Stability Pact countries be
included in the Pact's secretariat.
Expressed at the meeting was the need for greater transparency
within the Pact, although Special Coordinator Bodo Hombach was
given credit for the level of transparency maintained so far.
Drobnjak pointed to the fact that two opposed things were becoming
increasingly obvious - the need to introduce new instruments which
would make the Pact function better and the fear of over-
institutionalising the Pact.
"What we need now is to find the best mechanisms in order to bring
those two things closer with the aim of raising the quality of
implementation of the Pact," Drobnjak said.
Drobnjak confirmed that Stability Pact's Special Coordinator Bodo
Hombach would present a stability agenda at the Salonika meeting.
He described the document as very good, because it "follows two
guidelines - the clearly determined Euro-Atlantic integration of
countries which benefit from the Stability Pact and the attempt to
strengthen the role of countries in the region within the Stability
Pact."
