ZAGREB, May 11 (Hina) - Unless the government puts an end to further
violations of the rights and position of Croatia's workers over the
next 100 days, the Croatian Association of Trade Unions (HUS) will
call on a general strike at the expiry of that deadline, HUS
president Zdenko Mucnjak told reporters in Zagreb on Thursday.
HUS is not satisfied with what the government has achieved in the
first 100 days of its mandate, Mucnjak said, adding the government
gives too much attention to personnel combinations while the
unemployment rate and prices keep going up, salaries drop, a
privatisation revision has not begun, and the rule-of-law does not
penalise economic crimes.
Mucnjak said HUS reached a decision on the general strike at its
fifth, extraordinary conference in Split on May 5 and 6.
The strike would not jeopardise the coming tourist season because
it would take place after the season's peak, he concluded.
