Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) invited the capital's residents to join a union procession which will rally at Zagreb's central Ban Jelavic Square at 10 a.m. on May 1 and walk towards Maksimir, where Premier Ivica Racan and President Stipe Mesic are to join in. This year's Labour Day celebrations will be held under the motto "For the Dignity of Labour, For the Dignity of the Worker". SSSH expects about 100,000 Zagreb residents at the celebrations, which will feature live music and offer over 6,000 traditional May 1 bean broth meals and 2,000 litres of beer. celebrations.
The Association will urge the government to stop the rising
unemployment rate and the non-payment of salaries, incite
production and employment, and fulfil pre-electoral promises of an
urgent revision of privatisation, changes in the tax system and
labour legislation.
