DIOKOM WILL NOT UNDERGO BANKRUPTCY, WORKERS CONTINUE STRIKE

ZAGREB, May 2 (Hina) - Tuesday's meeting between Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic and representatives of unions of Split's "Diocom" company concluded with a decision that bankruptcy proceedings was not a good solution for the company. It was agreed that Diocom's new management should urgently draft a rehabilitation plan, whose main carrier will be the state, that is, the Croatian Privatisation Fund. "Diocom's bankruptcy is not an appropriate solution taking into consideration that almost all debt-creditor relations are in relations between the state and employees," a joint statement said. The Privatisation Fund will try and secure the payment of at least one month's salary within eight days, and the remaining three months' salaries by the end of May. Although Diocom will not undergo bankruptcy proceedings, a large majority of 2,370 employees are continuing their strike which began eight days ago, because only one month's salary has been agreed to paid within eight days, while the workers are requesting the payment of two months' salaries. Tuesday's employees' meeting concluded the strike would continue, when the strike committee and Croatian Association of Unions informed the workers about the results of talks with Minister Fizulic.
