ZAGREB, May 8 (Hina) - Despite requests by a part of MPs of the
Parliament's House of Counties that Monday's discussion on
amendments to the Law on Reconstruction should be interrupted due
to the fact that their session was not televised, the House did
continue its session.
After one-hour discussions among party benches, the most numerous,
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), concluded it would be a good idea
to continue the discussion today.
It is better to do this and enable the public to hear our opinions
under any circumstances and even in this media blockade, Miroslav
Prpic of the HDZ, said, expressing hope the Croatian Radio
Television would fulfil its promise and broadcast the discussion
late Monday night.
Velimir Kvesic (Croatian Party of Rights) and Vladimir Katic (HDZ)
requested they should cease discussion, while Social Democratic
Party's Zlatko Komadina saw no reason for leaving the session.
He replied to the HDZ MPs by saying the House had worked before with
or without the discussion being televised.
Because the television had not directly broadcast the session, HDZ
MPs protested in the morning part of the session. They held that the
public had the right to hear their opinions on such an important
law.
With strong criticism regarding the Government's amendments to the
law, the House resumed its work.
