ZAGREB, April 26 (Hina) - Croatian National Bank (HNB) governor
Marko Skreb and members of the HNB Council on Wednesday decided to
make their mandates available to the Croatian National Sabor, after
the House of Representatives failed to adopt the governor's report
on activities.
The statement from today's session of the Council, held under the
chairmanship of governor Skreb, read that the decision was passed
unanimously (with the absence of one member) upon examination of
the discussion and conclusions from last week's session of the
House of Representatives.
The House of Representatives failed to pass reports on activities
of the Central Bank for 1998 and the first half of 1999, nor
financial plans for the last and this year, namely it denied its
support to this highest body of the Central Bank, which had
previously adopted the documents.
Considering the credibility, stabilisation activities and
continuance in the realisation of constitutional duties of the
Central Bank, the HNB Council assessed that by making the mandates
available it is giving an appropriate contribution to the solving
of the situation as soon as possible. This will namely mean less
unwanted consequences for macroeconomic stability, faith in the
Croatian bank system and the position of the country at financial
markets.
The HNB Council, which was appointed by the Croatian National
Sabor, has eight members. The Council includes three head men of the
Central Bank; governor Skreb who is also president of the Council,
deputy governor Zdravko Rogic and vece governor Relja MArtic. The
other five members are Pero Jurkovic, Ivan Milas, Gorazd Nikic,
Mate Babic and Vlado Leko.
The Croatian National Sabor appointed Marko Skreb the governor of
the Croatian National Bank on March 1, 1996 for six years.
