The book written by the director of the Croatian Language and
Linguistics Institute, Miro Kacic, was published in Croatian in
1995 by the Faculty of Philosophy's Linguistics Institute.
It was assessed among Croatian expert circles as a new and important
contribution in the field of modern European linguistics in the
creation of the awareness of the identity of the Croatian
language.
The book was translated into French by Samir Bajric, a lecturer of
the Dijon university linguistics department.
The book in French, Kacic's research and arguments, face the
tradition of established opinions of the French public about the
"Serbo-Croatian language".
The book could be a cause for a modern scientific research and
argument probing at French Slavist departments, where the problems
of the Croatian language are still heeded a part of
"Serboslavistics".
Kacic earned a doctorate in 1987 at the Provancal university in
France. He works at the Zagreb University and is an assistant
linguistic expert at the Sorbonne, where he has been a member of
several years of the doctorates commission and heads several
scientific projects.
His book was previously translated in Zagreb onto English and
German, published by Zagreb's "Novi most" company, and this is its
third edition in a foreign language.
The French edition was also supplemented by a chapter "Why Croatian
cannot possibly be Serbo-Croatian", which was not included in the
Croatian original in 1995.
