ZAGREB, April 20 (Hina) - Members of the House of Representatives on
Thursday held a heated debate about a bill on changes to the Labour
Act, proposed by the Croatian Party of Rights/Croatian Christian
Democratic Union (HSP/HKDU) bloc. The bill is aimed at legalising
the right to strike in case workers are not paid their wages.
Members of the ruling coalition said they did not deny workers the
right to wages and the right to go on strike if they do not receive
them, however, that cannot be regulated with partial changes but by
changing the whole law.
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) MPs said the ruling coalition had
been advocating the same changes while it was part of the
Opposition.
Since there was no quorum at the end of the session, the lower house
did not vote about the bill.
Presenting the government's stand about the bill, Deputy Labour
Minister Bozo Zaja said the government would next week discuss a
complete bill on changes to the Labour Act and send it into
parliamentary procedure in May.
The third session of the lower house will continue next Wednesday.
