The Earth Day programme, which was organised by the Green Action's
Solar Info-Centre, included a solar exhibition, music
performances, an Easter concert and other events.
Bozo Kovacevic, Minister of Environmental Protection and Zoning,
said the Earth Day celebration was organised thanks to
environmentally aware citizens and non-governmental
organisations. The future and survival of the planet depend on each
one of us, Kovacevic said, urging citizens to fight for the right to
a clean and healthy environment and promising government's
support.
The Green Action has also launched an initiative to send Deputy
Prime Minister Goran Granic a postcard with suggestions on
stimulative measures regarding the use of renewable sources of
energy in the new strategy of economic development. Kovacevic said
the initiative was positive and added the Government's draft power
strategy accentuated the use of renewable sources of energy such as
wind, water, biological fuels and solar energy.
This year's Earth Day, which marks its 30th anniversary, is
celebrated in 174 countries and is dedicated to solar energy and the
danger of disturbing the global climatic balance by using fossil
fuels.
