ZAGREB, March 7 (Hina) - The Croatian National Sabor's committees
for interior policy and national security will discuss cooperation
between Croatia and the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Friday.
The session, which was called by the Croatian National Sabor's
Presidency, will be closed for public. The session will be attended
by all members of the Sabor's Presidency, presidents of all
parliamentary benches, and presidents of all parliamentary
parties, close associates of the Government's Cabinet, and the
defence, interior, foreign, and justice ministers.
Depending on decisions from the session, the Croatian National
Sabor's House of Counties and House of Representatives shall
discuss this issue.
The decision that cooperation between Croatia and the ICTY be
discussed at a joint session of the two committees is a result of an
agreement between the Sabor Presidency, the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) parliamentary bench, who initiated the issue, and the
Government, President of the Croatian National Sabor Zlatko Tomcic
said.
Tomcic was not able to say whether a report on the context of the
document on the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina would be submitted at
Friday's session. According to Prime Minister Ivica Racan, the
documents could bring into question arguments of the verdict
against General Tihomir Blaskic, who was convicted by the ICTY to 45
years in prison last week.
At this moment I can't answer that question, Tomcic said. He,
however, added that a serious analysis of relations between Croatia
and the ICTY will start by Friday's session.
Tomcic said that the unfavourable position of General Tihomir
Blaskic could improve in the appeal process. The joint interest
expressed at the session of the Sabor's Presidency was that a
consensus of all political factor in Croatia be achieved in a
discussion on such an important national issue, Tomcic told
reporters. This was confirmed by the president of the Croatian
national Sabor House of Counties, Katica Ivanisevic.
