ZAGREB, Feb 25 (Hina) - The Federation of Croatian Workers' Unions (URSH) on Friday assessed that the reduction of salaries of Croatian MPs by 27 instead of the promised 40 percent was a bad message of the new authority to the
electorate. Keeping about three fourths of the salary which the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) voted for to the dismay of the then Opposition is a slap in the face of socially endangered workers, the unions said in a statement. The URSH strongly condemns "the selfishness of those who voted for their astronomically high salaries in an extremely difficult economic situation, which they themselves describe as much worse than expected." The unions also insist that Croatian Parliament President Zlatko Tomcic give a public statement on the prospects of the austerity programme, which is the backbone of the economic and social policy of the new government.(hina) rml
