ZAGREB, Feb 14 (Hina) - Statements of Croatian Economy Minister
Goranko Fizulic, reading that the number of unemployed persons
could increase by 20,000 to 30,000 due to bankruptcies, disturbs
Croatian employees and do not contribute to the atmosphere of
social partnership, heads of the four trade union headquarters
which gather industrial workers told on Monday.
Members of trade unions hope that Fizulic's statements did not
represent the attitude of Prime Minister Ivica Racan's
Government.
"Fizulic's statement on the increase of the number of unemployed
persons and the opening of bankruptcy processes are not fair to
social partners", said president of the Croatian Association of
Trade Unions (HUS) Zdenko Mucnjak. According to him, Fizulic made a
mistake when he announced radical measures before making a thorough
analysis of the situation in economy with trade unions and
associations of Croatian employers.
President of the Croatian Association of Workers' Trade Unions
Boris Kunst reminded that the coalition of the Social Democratic
Party (SDP)/ Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) won the elections
due to their announcement of ending bankruptcy processes and work
without getting paid.
"If bankruptcies are necessary, they should not be conducted in
line with the current model; sack workers and sell property", Kunst
said.
President of Croatian Independent Trade Unions Kresimir Sever
pointed to the fact that in most cases problematic companies were
owned by the state, which should have been be more tactful in
dealing with the future of the companies and the future of
companies' workers.
"It is also questionable, whether Fizulic's attitude is his own or
the attitude of the Government. If this is the Government's
attitude, than this is the path towards social unrest", Sever
stressed.
President of Croatia's Independent Trade Unions (SSSH) Davor
Jurcic, in Monday's statement firmly denied Fizulic's statement
characterising it as a deceipt towards Croatian workers and the
electoral body.
The SSSH stressed it was ready to organise all forms of trade
unions' battle in order to prevent the Government or certain
ministries from making such moves.
