evening arrived in Berlin for an official visit to Germany during
which he and host Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will discuss
Croatia's integration with Euro-Atlantic structures, as well as
Croatian-German political and economic relations.
Racan is heading a Croatian delegation which also includes Foreign
Minister Tonino Picula and European Integration Minister Ivan
Jakovcic. They arrived to Berlin after a two-day visit to Brussels,
where they held talks with high-ranking officials of the European
Union (EU) and NATO. Prior to Brussels, the delegation visited
Portugal, the country currently presiding the EU.
Besides Schroeder, the Croatian delegation will meet German
Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and members of the German
parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. They should also meet
German businessmen and bankers.
Following Germany's positive assessment of the changes which
ensued in Croatia after recent parliamentary and presidential
elections, it is expected Racan and the Croatian delegation will
meet with a favourable reception in Berlin.
It is believed the recent changes will open possibilities which
should facilitate Croatia's integration with Euro-Atlantic
institutions and contribute to stabilisation in the region.
The Croatian delegation will depart for Zagreb tomorrow in the
evening.
