EUROPE'S EXPERTS PRESENT REPORT ON ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION IN CRO

ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - A report on the implementation of environmental protection in Croatia, compiled by experts of a European Commission environmental protection committee, was presented at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Environmental Protection in Zagreb on Friday. The report was two years in the making, and contains an assessment of environmental protection in Croatia and basic conclusions and recommendations to Croatia in environmental protection policy. By establishing the Ministry of Physical Planning and Environmental Protection, Croatia has effected the chief recommendation. The report over 200 pages recommends how to improve the environmental protection system in three sections - measures for the protection and managing of the environment, how to act when pollution occurs and how to manage natural resources, and economic and sector integration. The report recommends Croatia's Ministry of Physical Planning and Environmental Protection should also include tourism, zoning, and the state administration for the protection of waters, as well as the establishment of an environmental fund. Objections include the fact that Croatia has not been more specific in establishing priorities in environmental protection, and for not defining the aftermath last decade's war had on the environment.
